Placerville will be “Rockin’ and Wranglin’” during this year’s county fair. From the rocking sound of the band Rich and the Redstreaks to mutton bustin’ and bull riding, this year’s fair offers something for just about everyone. For 152 years the El Dorado County Fair has celebrated the people, agriculture, art, music and resources of the county. “We really think we have something for everyone,” said Jody Gray, fair CEO. “And, there’s so many different things to do, you couldn’t possibly do them all in a day.” She said fairgoers can prove their strength with the popular Clifton and Warren Hay Bucking contest, enjoy a variety of music, check out all the carnival rides and sample all the fair food favorites. “From hot dogs and beer to turkey legs and cotton candy visitors can enjoy it all,” Gray said. A variety of music is lined up ranging from classic rock to blues, country to soul and 50s to 70s classics. First up on Friday, June 17, are The Train and Ricky and the Redstreaks. The Train got its start at the El Dorado County Fair in the late 60s and is reuniting to play the fair, Gray said. “On Saturday evening, fairgoers can enjoy a full five-and-a-half hours of music featuring the Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Led Zeppelin tribute bands — all included with the price of admission,” she said. Aside from all the music there will be a Monster truck pull, motocross events, livestock competitions and exhibits, monkeys and trained baboons. Lyla Hickcomb is new to the area and said she is excited to attend a real county fair. “I come from a big city and I really like the small town feel of Placerville,” she said. “The fair sounds like it will be a lot of fun — small, but with a focus on what a fair is all about.” She said she plans on checking out the recipe contests as well as the livestock area. “Those are the things that really make a country fair a country fair,” Hickcomb said.
