After five meets against 12 schools in the Foothill Intermediate Schools Athletic League, the E.V. Cain Wildcats are ready for the season finale. E.V. Cain will compete at the F.I.S.A.L. cross country championships Wednesday afternoon at William Jessup University in Rocklin. The Wildcats are strong contenders, particularly due to the hilly course. In their final tuneup last Tuesday at Silverado Middle School in Roseville, both Wildcat girls teams placed second overall, with Lauren Mason and Macaylea Mitchell winning their respective races. Sixth grader Jack Kearns once again led E.V. Cain in the 6th and 7th grade boys race, placing second after falling short in a thrilling sprint to the finish line. Eighth grader Zach Stelzer won his race for the fourth time this season, finishing the one-and-a-half mile course in eight minutes flat. E.V. Cain won all races at Cavitt Middle School in Granite Bay on Sept. 29 after a second-place overall finish at Antelope Crossing Middle School in Roseville a week prior. Wednesday’s races are slated to start at 4 p.m.
