E.V. Cain students fare well at science fair

E.V. Cain Charter Middle School celebrated some scientific success at the Sacramento Regional Science and Engineering Fair. Teacher Don Scott said 30 E.V. Cain students participated in the fair, which was held March 18-19 at Rosemont High School in Sacramento. More than 300 students competed overall. E.V. Cain students Dayanara Campos and Katy James qualified to go and compete in the California State Science Fair in Los Angeles May 2-3. Category winners for the Junior division from E.V. Cain include Katy James, second place, Behavior and Social Science; Zachary Haupt, third place, Behavior and Social Science; Emma McKay, fifth place, Behavior and Social Science; Dayanara Campos, second place, Biological Science; Alyssa Gurzi and Sarah Kosmata, third place, Biological Science; and Julian Demauri and Alec Kalterakus, fourth place, Engineering. Special Award recipients include Kazik Lewandowski, who won the Aerojet Engineering award; Alyssa Gurzi and Sara Kosmata, who won an American Public Works Association award; Logan Moore, who won Outstanding Project from The California Department of Water Resources; Holden Rountree, who won third place from Powerhouse Science Center; and Grace Schoenhoff, who won a U.S. Navy/Marine Corps award. ~Staff report
