Falcons edge Bruins on senior night

The Colfax High volleyball team topped Bear River on senior night in a five-game thriller that lasted nearly three hours, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-27, 15-12. Senior Erica Heikila came up big for the Falcons with 25 kills, 26 digs and five blocks. “It was probably Erica’s best match ever,” Colfax coach Vicky Satterlee said. “She really came to play.” Iona Lofrano and Kelsey Whittet added 11 kills apiece and Whittet’s serving was key as Colfax pulled away in the final game. Kristi McCallister added five kills, Kassidy Gutierrez added 23 digs and Haley Biles dished out 43 assists to go with three aces. Colfax (9-2) jumped ahead of Bear River (8-3 PVL), into second place in the PVL. Placer 3, Lincoln 0 — The Hillgals utilized all their seniors on senior night and rolled to a 25-15, 25-13, 26-24 win. Placer (10-1) clinched at least a share of its third straight PVL title. Emma Oehler passed out 25 assists, Sarah Francis pounded 10 kills and Nikki Johnston had 29 digs and three aces to pace the Hillgals. Emily Jones had five kills and three aces while Kim Asbury added three kills and 20 digs. Placer’s junior varsity and freshman teams both beat Lincoln in two games. The freshman team is unbeaten in the PVL.
