Falcons split pair at RC tournament
Devon Loomis, Kyle Bryant, David Ballowe and Michael Wilson all delivered RBI base hits Monday afternoon to help the Colfax High baseball team defeat host River City, 4-3, in the opening day of the River City Tournament.
The win gave the Falcons a split in its first two tourney contests. In their opener, Colfax dropped a 2-1 extra inning affair to Churchill County, Nevada (Fallon) with the winning run being scored on a catcher’s interference call.
Colfax, now 7-4 overall on the season, was set to play Florin Tuesday at 10:30 a.m. The Falcons will then play a trophy bracket game on Wednesday.
In their win over River City, the Falcons were able to defeat the host Raiders for the second time this season. Loomis' rip was a triple while Ballowe, Bryant and Wilson had run-scoring singles.
Wes Woodward, Ray Henry and Ryan Glazner teamed on the hill for the mound win.
In the opener against Churchill County, Colfax received a good pitching showing by left ander James Dean but couldn’t hold a 1-0 lead after two throwing errors in the sixth inning.
In the bottom of the eighth inning with two outs and a runner on third, a fly ball was hit by Churchill to the outfield that was caught for the apparent third out of the frame. However, the umpire ruled catcher’s interference to plate the winning run.
