The Placer County Coroner’s office identified Tuesday the woman who died in a Foresthill Road accident Monday as Pamela Jean Hawkins, 52, from Foresthill. The head-on collision killed Hawkins and sent another driver, Graciela Mata, 56, to the U.C. Davis Medical Center with severe injuries. She was later transferred to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where she was listed in fair condition Tuesday, according to Robin Montgomery, Sutter Roseville spokeswoman. Mata was driving west on Foresthill Road near Happy Pines Drive, in a silver sport utility vehicle at 7 a.m. according to Dave Montijo, spokesman for the California Highway Patrol. Hawkins was traveling in the opposite direction in a white Chrysler Sebring and reportedly struck Mata’s car straight on, Montijo said. Hawkins was not wearing her seatbelt and succumbed to her injuries at the scene, Montijo said. Mata was wearing a seatbelt, according to Montijo. Foresthill Road was closed for about two hours as a result of the crash. The incident is still under investigation, Montijo said, and more will be revealed when the toxicology reports are complete.
