A head-on collision Friday afternoon resulted in a fatality after a pickup truck ended up in a front yard, according to Dave Montijo, California Highway Patrol spokesman. At about 1:05 p.m. Friday, a 2004 Ford F250 pickup truck pulling a trailer traveling northbound on Lakeland Drive met the front of a white Toyota Tacoma pickup truck when the Toyota, for reasons still under investigation, appeared to cross the center dividing line into opposing traffic, Montijo said. The driver of the Ford was reportedly traveling between 25 to 30 mph on Lakeland Drive just south of West Granite Drive in Granite Bay at the time of the collision. The speed of the Toyota is unknown at this time, Montijo said. As a result of the crash, the Toyota was left in a nearby residential yard while the Ford was stopped in the middle of the road. While the Ford’s driver, Ken Gottardo, 50, of Roseville, did not suffer any injuries, it is not yet released the condition of all of the three occupants inside the Toyota. Montijo said one of the occupants of the Toyota died but investigators were still trying to determine if they were a passenger or the driver. The names of the occupants are not being released pending notification of next of kin. Montijo said the roadway was blocked for about two hours as investigators surveyed the scene. He said there wasn’t a strong impact to traffic because the accident occurred on a residential road. The Journal’s Jenifer Gee can be reached at or post a comment.
