FDA needs to be reformed

In reference to Terry Auch’s letter of March 18, I would like to add a few comments. Relatively few Americans realize that the FDA is truly a government agency in desperate need of reform. In collusion with the pharmaceutical companies it has done everything possible to restrict or deny access to alternative therapies, including the use of nutritional supplements. Many of these therapies could save untold thousands of lives annually. The FDA was originally established to protect public health, but instead, sadly, is clearly in the business of protecting the vested interest of Big Pharma which has reaped exorbitant profits selling its largely ineffective and toxic drugs, many of which have had harmful if not fatal consequences, as Terry Auch rightly points out. There is insufficient space here to enumerate the many shocking abuses of power that have occurred at the expense of peoples’ health, but a recently published book entitled “FDA: Failure, Deception, Abuse” by Hunter Lewis and Gretchen Dubeau, fully and factually exposes those abuses in detail. The book is an absolute “must-read” for anyone concerned with their health and well-being and that of our loved ones. Only with radical reform of the FDA will Americans be free to choose and access life-enhancing therapies. MARC W. DAVIS, Colfax
