Final edition: Taxpayer group signs off with last Tax Talk

-A +A
Dan Sokol, vice president of the League of Placer County Taxpayers, holds up copies of the last edition of the government spending watchdog group’s Tax Talk newspaper. The 2,000-copy run is the final one for the group, which was formed 39 years ago. Sokol, a longtime Auburn resident who recently moved to Roseville, said any remaining funding will go to the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer Association. Other longtime members include president Wally Reemelin of Meadow Vista and treasurer Betty Samson. The league will dissolve at the end of the year. Over the years, the league led a drive to let Placer County voters decide on Board of Supervisors pay, worked on the Howard Jarvis-led Proposition 13 property tax limits and exposed government over-spending, including a $10,000 plane ride to a meeting by Supervisor Rocky Rockholm that helped lead to his election defeat.
