Placer Hills firefighters arrive in quick response
AUBURN CA - A wildland fire moving up a hill Friday toward a house in the Applegate area was extinguished by fire crews before it could do any structural damage. The fire was reported at 11:36 a.m. at a Meadow Gate Road property, at the Vista Ridge Drive intersection. Initially reported at about 360 square feet, it moved through grass toward the house but was stopped at a ridge. Resident Eva Smith praised the quick response time in putting out the fire. Placer Hills Fire District crews were first on the scene and Cal Fire also participated in extinguishing the blaze. The property is located near the Applegate I-80 exit. "They got here in a hurry," Smith said. Cal Fire said that cause of the fire, which was spread by gusting winds, was still unknown and under investigation Friday afternoon. Placer Hills Chief Ian Gow said that the fire danger was high Friday and would continue that way through the weekend, despite the drop in temperature. "Fuels are really dry," Gow said. "The little bit of wind we had didn't help. Firefighters did a good job of protecting homes."
