Flagpole for Central Square

-A +A
The Auburn Public Works Department installed a new 30-foot flagpole in Central Square Thursday morning. The pole will hold the American flag. The cost of the new pole and foundation is about $2,500, according to Bernie Schroeder, Public Works director. Schroeder said she expects permanent flush-mounted lighting to be installed in the concrete at the bottom of the flag by December. The Pledge of Allegiance could also be etched into the ground at the foot of the pole as soon as next week. Schroeder said the department definitely wanted to get the pole in before Veterans Day and managed to speed up the process. “We were originally going to try to put it with Streetscape Phase 2, but that is getting delayed until spring, and it really doesn’t encompass any part of Central Square.” ~Bridget Jones
