I have a modest proposal to ease the gridlock constricting our legislatures, here and in Washington. I propose that immediately after the Pledge of Allegiance, legislators be required to continue standing to attention while the sound system plays the first few bars of the heavenly choir singing the Rolling Stones’ “You Can’t Always Get What You Want”: You can’t always get what you want You can’t always get what you want You can’t always get what you want But if you try sometimes you might find You get what you need. Perhaps it would remind them how democracy works. BOB NELSEN, Auburn
