Local aid organizations are calling the Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive a success. Just under 6,500 pounds of food were collected for the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, Auburn Salvation Army and Auburn Adventist Community Services, according to Sandy Bassett, president of the food closet. Bassett said the organizations wanted to thank the postal letter carriers and the families in Auburn and Newscastle who participated in the May 14 event. According to Bassett, 33,393 pounds of food were collected in the local Placer County area. “Each item donated was important,” Bassett said. “Donations are accepted all year long.” For more information on how to donate, contact the individual organizations. ~Staff report
