Forest Lake, Del Oro soccer to play for section crowns

After starting the season with a 1-5-1 record, the Forest Lake Christian girls soccer team will play for the Sac-Joaquin Section championship. The Falcons dropped Vacaville Christian 3-0 Thursday afternoon at Lake of the Pines. They will take on defending champion Bradshaw Christian for the Division VI title on Saturday. The time and location will be announced by the section office today. Sophomore Morghan Koch scored her 21st goal of the season and added an assist to lead Forest Lake past Vacaville Christian. Fellow sophomore Aly English also had a goal and an assist. Emily English had the opening score for the Falcons, who led 2-0 at halftime. Sarah Ponce added one assist. Forest Lake coach Trenton Mol complimented the defensive play of Cassidy Green and Makena Wong along with the midfield passing of Lia Hegarty. Senior Stephanie Herron had her second shutout in as many playoff games. Bradshaw Christian (24-4) in Thursday?s other semifinal. Forest Lake last won the section banner in 2010. The Golden Eagles soared into their first Sac-Joaquin Section championship game with a romp at home Thursday night. The Sierra Foothill League champions improved to 8-0-7 on the season and will take on SFL foe Woodcreek in Saturday?s final at Cosumnes Oaks High School. The section office will announce the game time today. The Eagles got two goals from senior star Lauren Golnick in Thursday?s win. Kaleigh Landberg added a goal and an assist. Jordan McDaniel had one goal and Kacey Crane added an assist. Taylor Cirksena and Kelly Edwards combined on the shutout at goalkeeper for Del Oro, which is ranked No. 4 in the state by MaxPreps.
