Forest Lake fights off Delta

Jen Menary served 23 consecutive points in a dominant second game and finished the match with eight aces and 19 assists, leading the Forest Lake Christian volleyball team past Delta in a four-game Central Valley Christian League battle Thursday. The Falcons beat the Saints 25-23, 25-4, 15-25, 25-13. Caitlin Hanson had 10 kills for Forest Lake (11-8, 3-4 CVCL), while Tasha Haddad had seven and Tessa Gavia and Morghan Pomeroy finished with five apiece. The Falcons host Victory Christian next Thursday.
at Colfax — Hannah Baldwin had six kills, eight digs, three blocks, and two aces and the Falcons cruised 25-21, 25-21, 25-20 Thursday.
Colfax was still without the services of star Heidi Graves, who injured her knee in last week’s loss to Placer. Graves, whose knee had been too swollen this week to have an MRI, was scheduled to have one Friday.
Kayla Giles had five kills, eight assists, four digs and one block, Audrey Lewis had four aces and nine digs in place of Graves and libero Kelsey Lamb had perfect passing and finished with 11 digs.
Cassandra Campbell and Amber Cramer each finished with three kills and three blocks.
The Falcons (6-1 PVL) travel to play Bear River Tuesday.
GIRLS WATER POLO
Del Oro 7, Whitney 5 at Rocklin — Bianca Binns scored the go-ahead goal on a five-meter shot in the fourth period and the Golden Eagles rallied to beat the Wildcats in the Sierra Foothill League tournament Thursday at Whitney High.
Del Oro was seeded fourth behind Whitney going in, and trailed 2-0 after one period and 3-2 going into the fourth period.
Rebecca Zug scored three goals for the Eagles, including the tying goal, while Rachael O’Dell scored two and Dani Bast added a goal.
Del Oro goalkeeper Danielle Jaul finished with 15 blocks.
The Eagles play seventh-seeded Oakmont Tuesday when the tournament continues. All teams will then be re-seeded with two more games to be played next Thursday and the following week.
Bear River 253, El Dorado 279 at Lake of the Pines — Ashlee Andrews shot a 6-over-par 41 to earn medallist honors as the Bruins improved to 7-0.
Emilie Yonan fired a 46, followed by Lucy Corippo (53), Hannah Brown (55), and Stephanie Wong and Bre Rogers, who both carded 58s.
Bear River plays Whitney next Thursday at Lincoln Hills Golf Club.
Granite Bay 3, Del Oro 1 at Loomis — Casey Meuser scored on a hard shot from 40 yards out to tie the score at 1-1 heading into the second half, but the Grizzlies (10-3-4, 7-0 SFL) scored twice over the final 40 minutes to earn the win Thursday.
Outside defender Eric Weaver played well and goalkeeper Alec Lyons made some big saves in the loss.
The Eagles (3-8-1, 2-4 SFL) play at Oakmont next Thursday at 7 p.m.
Granite Bay also won the JV game, 4-0.
Del Oro 8, Oakmont 1 at Oakmont — Kelsey Becker, Brynn Bacharach and Erin Becker won in straight sets at the top three singles spots to lead the Golden Eagles in a Sierra Foothill League rout Thursday.
Alyssa Lewis won 6-0, 6-4 at No. 4 singles and Aubrey Nelson won 7-6, 6-3 at No. 5.
In doubles action, Molly Watson and Danielle Walker were 6-1, 6-0 winners at No. 1, Ellen Watson and Mackenzie Landry won 6-4, 7-6 at No. 2 and Kimmy Hibbert and Jessica Barber posted a 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 3.
Del Oro travels to play at Woodcreek Tuesday afternoon.
