Forest Lake finally finds net

Randy Van Winkle and Michael Sparling each scored twice and had assists in Forest Lake Christian’s 6-0 win over Sacramento Waldorf in Fair Oaks Monday afternoon. The Falcons erupted for a season-high six goals after scoring only six goals in their previous eight games combined. “It was a much-needed win,” coach Ken Raskin said. “We’ve been having a hard time putting the ball in the net. FLC led 2-0 at halftime after Van Winkle ripped a pair of early goals, assisted by Dimitri Masumbuko and Sparling. Van Winkle returned the favor to Sparling less than a minute into the second half. Jamie Parrott scored off a ball from Justin Raskin, Sparling scored his second goal unassisted, as did Andrew Baker late in the game. The Falcons outshot the Waves 26-4, with goalkeeper Aaron Anderson making two saves. FLC (4-7-5, 3-2-2 Central Valley Christian League) could still make the playoffs. The Falcons travel to Golden Sierra for a nonleague game Thursday before wrapping up CVCL at home against Victory Christian and Vacaville Christian the following two weeks. El Dorado 2, Placer 0 at Placerville — The Cougars used goals in the 35th and 75th minutes to shut out the Hillmen Monday evening. “I told the guys we needed all 11 to play well and we didn’t have that tonight,” Placer head coach Mark Miller said. The Hillmen (12-7-2, 5-3-1 PVL) host frontrunner Whitney on Wednesday afternoon. Placer closes out the PVL schedule next week at home against Mesa Verde and at Lincoln.
