FORESTHILL — The Foresthill High (6-4) hosted the Delta Saints (10-0) in a Sacramento Metro Athletic League test with the league championship at stake. From the start the game went in favor of the visitors who scored on several long runs leading to a 45-12 victory. The Saints claimed the outright SMAL championship. The Foresthill offense struggled in the first half completing no passes and gaining just 55 yards on the ground. The Wildfires were also plagued by penalties which set them back 50 yards in the first half alone. Despite the halftime score of 22-0, Foresthill fought back. In the third quarter sophomore quarterback Tommy Sawyer connected with junior Ian Sykes for a 38 yard touchdown strike that got the Wildfires on the scoreboard. The running game came to life, too, pounding out 111 yards in the second half including a 15-yard touchdown run by senior Jace Pack. Zach Moss, a junior, led the defense with 10 tackles and one knocked down pass. Other standouts were Tyler Giles and Jerod Williams with eight tackles each. Foresthill will play next week in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division V playoffs for the first time.
