A former Placer County deputy who has pleaded not guilty to 16 felony counts including unlawful sex with a minor was in an Auburn courtroom briefly Thursday. Michael Stuart Johnson, 26, has been charged with five counts of unlawful sex with a minor, one count of digital penetration and several counts of lewd and lascivious acts with a minor. A status conference was set in the case Thursday. Johnson is scheduled to return to Placer County Superior court at 1:30 p.m. March 6. The events are alleged to have occurred from July 6 through Aug. 31 of last year. Additional counts include oral copulation with a second under age female victim alleged to have occurred between Aug. 8, 2003 and June 17, 2004. The defendant is also alleged to have furnished alcohol to three separate minors on July 10, 2007. Johnson's employment with the sheriff's department ended in mid-December, through no action of the county, officials said.
