Freshman leads Placer over Bear River

The Placer High golf team returned to its winning ways Thursday with a big win over Bear River at Auburn Valley Country Club.
Freshman Daniel Gregg was the medalist with a 3-over-par 39 and Cody Rieck was one shot back as the Hillmen shot a 203 to win by 25 strokes. Matthew Potter and Nathan Bonner both finished with 41s and Clark Pietromonaco added a 42. Placer improved to 7-1 in the Pioneer Valley League.
Aubrey Harwell led the Bruins with a 40 while Cory Langseth carded a 43.
Del Oro 197, Granite Bay 198 at Granite Bay — The Golden Eagles found a way to avenge a one-stroke loss to the Grizzlies earlier this month, even without standout Austin Smotherman.
Ryan Takayama sank a 10-foot putt for birdie on the final hole, joining Jahaan Nargussi with a 1-over-par 37 to spark Del Oro. Canyon Rowe carded a 40, Justin Raskin finished at 41 and Louie Eure added a 42 for the Golden Eagles, who won on coach Hal Steinback’s birthday.
Forest Lake 280, Foresthill 287 at Black Oak — The Falcons battled past the Wildfires with Jeremy Lanz carding a 10-over-par 46 to lead the way.
Raymond Bae added a 50, Kaley McClelland shot a 55 and Matt Kozak added a 60.
Max Reichardt finished with a 44 to earn medalist honors. J.T. Bernhardt added a 58.
