Del Oro High senior-to-be Brandon Monroe has received his first football scholarship offer. Monroe, a 6-1 197-pound running back-linebacker, was offered a scholarship this week by Fresno State. Fresno State, which over the years has recruited the Sacramento Valley area heavily, will be playing its first season in the Mountain West Conference in 2012. The Bulldogs have a new coach this season in Tim DeReuyter, the former defensive coordinator at Texas A&M. “We’re excited for Brandon,” said Del Oro coach Casey Taylor. “He’s been working hard and weighed in this week at 197 pounds. He’s running well and looking forward to a couple of combines that are coming up.” As a junior in 2011, Monroe led the Golden Eagles in rushing with 1,662 yards. He also scored 26 touchdowns including several on kick returns. Monroe averaged 6.8 yards a carry. Monroe will compete in the elite Nike Sparq Combine on May 19 at Laney College in Oakland.
