Get real about vicious dogs

Aristotle said: The definition of insanity is doing something over and over and expecting different results. We cannot continue to make our citizens and their pets victims of aggressive dogs living in our communities. It is our obligation to take a serious look at the procedures currently in place for addressing dangerous dogs, including an honest assessment of the impact on public safety that an inadequate, obsolete and much too small animal shelter plays in offering the departments mandated services. I hope our supervisors begin this process with a resolution calling for prompt and decisive action where aggressive dogs are concerned. At the pinnacle of that resolution would be public safety. The words of Aristotle remind us that we must stop the repeat of the mistake we’re about to make again if we do nothing at all about this egregious dog attack situation (Journal, June 8).
