Golden Eagle golfers show strong at tourney
Showing no ill effects from the spring break vacation, the Del Oro golf team fared very well in Monday’s Thunder Invitational played at Whitney Oaks in Rocklin.
Del Oro, with a score of 386 in the 18-hole event, finished in a three-way tie for first place with Christian Brothers and Oak Ridge after all the cards were totaled up.
However, in a unique tie-breaker to determine final placing, Christian Brothers emerged as the winner by virtue of a lower score on the final nine holes, 195 to Del Oro’s 196 and Oak Ridge’s 198.
“We played very well but we had to settle for second place,” said Del Oro coach Hal Steinback. “It was a good day of golfing for us. I’m pleased with our effort.”
Del Oro, which would have won the tournament if the No. 6 player’s score had been used, was led in the tournament by freshman Josh Sedano who shot a one-over-par 73 that earned him a third place overall finish.
Following in for the Golden Eagles were Justin Raskin, fourth overall with a 74; Louie Euer with a 79; and Bobby Mullen and Ryan Takayama, both with 80s. Del Oro’s sixth score came via Jahann Nargussi’s 83.
Del Oro resumes Sierra Foothill League play Thursday by meeting Roseville at Sierra View.
