GOP reaches new, lower low

Thirty GOP bought and paid for senators vote for corporate America over defending rape. In 2005, Jamie Leigh Jones was gang-raped by her fellow male employees while working for Haliburton/KBR in Baghdad. She was then locked in a shipping container for 24 hours without food, water or a bed, and threatened that if she left Iraq for medical treatment she would lose her job. This was, by far, not an isolated case. Jamie was prevented from bringing charges in court against KBR because her employment contract stipulated that sexual assault allegations would only be heard in private arbitration. Coming to the rescue for her and other unfortunate women was Sen. Al Franken (D-Minn.). He presented an amendment to the 2010 Defense Appropriations bill that would withhold defense contracts to companies like KBR “if they restrict their employees from taking workplace sexual assault, battery, and discrimination cases to court.” You would think that every Senator would jump to approve it, but 30 senators (all Republicans) decided that rape was quite OK with them. This is absolutely disgusting. Can the GOP sink any lower? I’ll bet they can. Stay tuned. Jill Walker, Auburn
