Government should not be providing for our welfare

-A +A
Thank you to the writer who listed the enormous amounts of money being earmarked in the present “stimulus” package for various expenditures (Mitch Olson, Your Views, Feb. 1). The Constitution authorizes the federal government to “promote” the general welfare, not “provide” it. Will those defending this package please write/post and quote the part(s) of the Constitution that authorize expenditures of taxpayer money on these categories of expense? And would they please inform us where the government is going to get all this money they propose to give away? Kathy Twisselmann Rocklin
