A 15-year-old Granite Bay boy was arrested on four counts of attempted homicide by Placer County Sheriff’s detectives on Thursday, according to a press release issued by the sheriff’s office Friday afternoon.

The boy, who will not be named because of his age, went to a home on Bentwood Way in Granite Bay around 11:30 p.m. Wednesday. He allegedly proceeded to throw a rock through one of the windows of the home and then allegedly threw a bottle containing a flammable liquid, which started a fire, the release said on Friday.

The family of four woke up when the smoke alarms started going off in the house. They were able to extinguish the flames shortly after.

No one was injured and the house sustained only minor damage from the incident.

After the sheriff’s office and South Placer Fire conducted an arson investigation, detectives went to the teen’s home, which is near the house on Bentwood Way. The boy, who is a sophomore at Granite Bay High School, was interviewed and taken to the Placer County Juvenile Hall in Auburn where he remains on four attempted homicide charges, plus a charge of throwing an incendiary or destructive device.
