Grass Valley home partially destroyed in blaze.

GRASS VALLEY- A residential log cabin style home was partially destroyed in a fire off Creek View Drive in Grass Valley around 7 p.m. Thursday night. Nobody was home during the blaze but a resident of the house, Nicole, who did not want to disclose her last name, arrived at the scene first. "I came home and saw all the smoke," Nicole said, "I ran inside to save our pets. Three cats, a bird and 3 dogs, of which I know for sure one dog is alive, but not sure about the rest. I called 911 from my cell phone while my boyfriend and I tried to use a garden hose to put the flames out but it didn't work." Nevada County Consolidated fire department and Higgins fire department from Grass Valley arrived on the scene. According to Battalion Chief Vern Canon of consolidated, said the cause of the fire was undetermined at the time and the house was totally engulfed in flames when he and his crew arrived. -Ben Furtado
