Placer coach Greg French was happy with how the Hillmen shot. Colfax coach Mike O’Connell was expecting a better outing from his Falcons.
Daniel Gregg tallied a 37 Tuesday at the par-36 Ridge to help lead Placer past Colfax 200-222 in a Pioneer Valley League boys golf match.
Gregg was followed by teammates Landon Hicks (40), Clark Pietromonaco (41), Michael McNamara (41) and Logan Strange (41).
“I was very pleased with the way the guys played,” French said. “We normally don’t play this course well, but we hung in with the rain and the cold. We knew what we had to do and got it done.”
Colfax, now 1-1 on the year, was led by Trevor Brewer and Jay Lynch, who both fired rounds of 39. They were followed by fellow Falcons Jordan Balser (42), Blake Rawlings (50) and Bailey Bean (52).
“A couple of guys had a couple of higher scores than expected,” O’Connell said. “We were hoping to shoot around 210. The first match we shot 212. We knew to compete with them we’d have to be around 210.”
Colfax hosts Center on Thursday at the Ridge at 3 p.m.
Placer (4-2, 2-0), meanwhile, heads to Lake of the Pines to play
