Elizabeth Hennessy sprinted, hurdled and leaped her way to a major distinction last week at Jesuit High School in Sacramento. The St. Joseph?s School seventh-grader earned the MVP award at the Parochial Athletic League Championships after winning three events and placing fourth in another. Hennessy starred in the hurdles as she led the Cougars to a third place finish as a team. She finished the 65-meter hurdles in 10.9 seconds to place first. In the 220-yard hurdles, Hennessy clocked in at 33.1 seconds and topped the 22-girl field by more than one second. In the long jump Hennessy cleared 14 feet, 1.5 inches to win. She also ran the 440-yard dash in an impressive 1:08.10 to place fourth behind three eighth graders. The PAL Championships included 26 teams of seventh and eighth graders from around the Sacramento region.
