High standards benefit us all

I would like to thank the Auburn Journal for their support of educational issues and the coverage on the Community Forum on Education (Journal, March 13). It takes leadership as provided by the editor to highlight issues that affect all of us and are important for a community to be successful. Although our local schools are doing amazing things, we need to push for higher standards. By drawing a line in the sand and not allowing any third-grader to be promoted unless they are proficient in reading skills, we will be assuring a greater level of success. I would like to challenge all schools and parents in Placer County to help put an end to this cycle and empower our third graders for greater success. Pam Robie Hart, Auburn
