Hillgals come back, edge Center

The Placer High girls soccer team rallied in the second half and posted a 2-1 win over Center on Thursday afternoon at Railhead Park.
Down 1-0 at halftime, the Hillgals evened the score when Caitlin Letcher converted a penalty kick early in the second half. Placer went ahead in the 70th minute as Sabrina Viscuso found the net after collecting a nice cross from Macaylea Mitchell.
Defenders Sarah Rowland, Alex Lee and Letcher kept the Cougars’ offense in check all game long. Olivia Holmes, Ashley Noder, Ashley Cook and Viscuso were outstanding in the midfield for Placer (5-4 overall). Kyra Hostetler had six saves at goalkeeper.
Colfax 4, Foothill 0 at Foothill – The Falcons continued their defensive dominance with an impressive victory over Foothill, who had averaged more than two goals a game.
Brittany Thomas was named the player of the game for her defensive effort against Foothill’s leading scorer Kashay Johnson, who was limited to just one shot.
Celeena Wall scored the Falcons’ first goal 13 minutes into the game. Amber Tobiasz dropped one in just before halftime and Emilee Klug added another seven minutes into the second half. Katie Thomas added the final goal with seven minutes to go on a corner kick.
Forest Lake 5, Delta 0 at Lake of the Pines — The Falcons rolled to 3-0 in the Central Valley California League as they poured it on in the second half.
Aly English had three goals and two assists to pace Forest Lake, which led just 1-0 at halftime.
Sarah Ponce had two assists. Emily English and Morgan Koch had one goal apiece and Marissa Peterson added one assist for the Falcons (3-5-1 overall). Stephanie Herron and Seleste Miranda combined on the shutout at goalkeeper.
