Hillgals do Wright against Colfax

The Placer High softball team caught a break and snared a big win over rival Colfax Tuesday afternoon in Auburn. Hillgals’ senior Tia Wright hit a blast to the center field fence in the bottom of the sixth inning. The ball bounced off the Colfax outfielder’s glove and over the fence. Wright circled the bases to give Placer a 3-2 win. Senior Brooke Swisley pitched six solid innings for Placer (2-4 Pioneer Valley League), giving up six hits. Courtney Phillips was 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Hillgals at the plate while Amanda Bond was 1-for-3. Kacy Romero added an RBI and was stellar defensively at second base. Mariah Turcotte was 2-for-3 with a home run for Colfax. Cara Spence pitched the distance for the Falcons, giving up one earned run and striking out 14. The Placer junior varsity squad beat Colfax 10-2 as Jenna Knox pitched six innings and gave up no earned runs. Knox was also 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI. Taylor Hill finished 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Forest Lake 15, Woodland Christian 3 at Lake of the Pines — The Falcons erupted for 10 runs in the first inning on their way to improving to 5-1 in the Central Valley Christian League. Junior Molly Huusfeldt had a grand slam and six RBIs while sisters Misha and Ari Von Zboray both belted triples for the Falcons (8-1 overall). Brittany Brown pitched four solid innings to get the win in relief of Ari Von Zboray.
