Hillgals gear up for playoffs with sweep

The Placer High volleyball team tuned up for the postseason with a 25-21, 25-9, 25-14 win over Foothill at Earl Crabbe Gym Wednesday night.
The Hillgals celebrated senior night with six upperclassmen on the court for the first game. Senior Erin Ellner had 10 kills and senior Michaela Leonard added six. Senior Gabby Orteza served up eight aces and senior Allison Alvarez chipped in with four kills.
Placer finished 8-2 in the PVL, in second place behind Bear River. The Hillgals will likely host a first-round Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoff game on Tuesday. The playoff brackets will be released today.
The Placer junior varsity squad swept Foothill to finish undefeated in the PVL.
Bear River 3, Center 0 at Sacramento — The Bruins took care of business quickly in their final Pioneer Valley League contest, officially securing the outright PVL title.
Bear River (9-1 PVL) beat Center 25-13, 25-9, 25-18.
Junior Nicole Nattras led the Bruins with eight kills. Junior Haley Brown handed out 15 assists and junior Sara Hagar dropped five kills.
Bear River will host a first-round Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV playoff match on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
Colfax 3, Lincoln 1 at Colfax —The Falcons rebounded from a loss in the opening game to close out the regular season with a 20-25, 25-10, 25-13, 25-6 win on senior night.
Senior Iona Lofrano led the charge back with 14 kills and three blocks. Sophomore Maddi Ittner added seven kills and two blocks while senior Kelsey Whittet added seven kills. Sara Davidson had four kills and two blocks. Seniors Ashley Scott and Taylor Pitz led the defense, combining for 28 digs. Haley Biles dished out 39 assists for the Falcons, who finished 7-3 in the PVL.
The Falcons will be on the road for the first round of the Division IV playoffs on Tuesday.
