The Placer High girls softball team?s remarkable surge continued Friday afternoon in Lincoln as the Hillgals held off the Zebras for a 7-5 victory. Placer won its sixth straight game and secured a playoff bid as the offense generated plenty of support for freshman pitcher Kaelin Amrein. Taylor Hill scored the go-ahead run in the top of the seventh inning as she raced around the bases on an Abby Kendall double. Haley Tupen added an insurance run as she tripled and scored on a single by Amrein. Trailing 5-3, Placer scored two runs in the fourth to tie the game. Kassidy Kosmata led off with a triple and Claire Hansen followed with a walk. Kosmata scored on a groundout and pinch-runner Makenna Gaffney came across on a double steal. Amrein scattered nine hits and gave up four earned runs in the complete-game effort. At the plate she had two hits and three RBIs. Tupen had two hits, two steals and two runs scored. Kendall had two hits and Hill scored two runs for Placer. The Hillgals (7-2 PVL, 15-3 overall) close out the regular season on Wednesday at home against Foothill.
