Jenna Knox scattered five hits and all nine Placer High starters had hits as the Hillgals blanked El Dorado 12-0 in softball action Wednesday in Placerville. Haley Tupen was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and one RBI while Kristin Close was 1-for-3 with three RBIs to lead Placer’s offensive explosion. Brooke Stufflebean was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs and Kacy Romero was 2-for-4 with two RBIs and a steal. Courtney Phillips finished 2-for-2 and Taylor Graham belted a double as the Hillgals improved to 2-9 in the Pioneer Valley League. Knox struck out three and walked one in the five-inning game. Placer will host Colfax Friday in the season finale for both teams. Colfax 3, 6, Mesa Verde 0, 4 at Citrus Heights — The Falcons swept a doubleheader from the Mavericks to maintain hope of finishing .500 in the PVL. Randi Anderson threw a two-hitter in the opener. Colfax scored all three of its runs in the third ining. Cassandra Campbell was 2-for-4 and Nelly Steinhoff was 2-for-2 to lead the Falcons (4-6 PVL). In the nightcap the Falcons trailed 4-1 after six innings before rallying to win it. Steinhoff was 3-for-4, Campbell was 2-for-4 with a double and Meghann McCollum was 2-for-3 at the plate. McCollum pitched four solid innings and Anderson came on to pick up the win in relief for Colfax.
