Hillmen, Bruins play to scoreless tie at Le Febvre

Placer and Bear River played to a scoreless tie in Pioneer Valley League action under the lights at Le Febvre Stadium Monday night. Goalkeeper Nigel Pell was only forced to make three saves for the Hillmen. “We just never really had any great looks at goal, either,” said Placer head coach Mark Miller. “We really didn’t make their keeper make too many saves.” Both defenses were strong in the tie. The Hillmen (8-4-2 overall, 1-0-1 PVL) host El Dorado at Railhead Wednesday afternoon, while Bear River (2-5-2, 1-0-1) takes on Lincoln at home. Colfax 6, Mesa Verde 0 at Colfax — The Falcons improved to 6-6 overall and 2-1 in the PVL with their shutout. Steven Smith scored three goals, while Austin Oberg, Michael Manning and David Lanthier added scores. Colfax travels to Lincoln next Monday. Forest Lake Christian 0, Victory Christian 0 at Citrus Heights — A bumpy field at Cherry Island Soccer Complex shut down the Falcons’ passing attack. Forest Lake (2-4-3 overall, 1-0-1 Central Valley Christian League) outshot Victory 20-9 but couldn’t find the back of the net. The Falcons travel to Vacaville Christian next Monday afternoon.
