The Placer High baseball team has its back against the wall again. After rallying to win the Pioneer Valley League championship in the last week of the season, coach John Hilton is hoping his Hillmen can roar back again. Placer lost to Rodriguez 3-2 Saturday in the opening game of a best-of-three series in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division III semifinals at McAuliffe Memorial Ballpark in Sacramento. A.J. Sanchez scattered six hits over six innings on the mound, but Rodriguez scratched out two runs in the bottom of the sixth to win it. Michael Reale had the lone extra-base hit for Placer (19-8). Eddie Vanderdoes and Kevin Giles were both 1-for-3 with one RBI. Kyle Wells, Austin LeBleu and Ryan Mason added hits for the Hillmen, who will play Rodriguez again Wednesday. If Placer wins, the two teams will meet again at 7 p.m. to determine which team advances to the section title game.
