The Placer High baseball team used a stellar week to jump right back into the Pioneer Valley League race, punctuating it with a 7-5 win over Colfax Thursday at James Field. The Hillmen continued to swing hot bats as they knocked out 12 hits, including a solo home run from junior Eddie Vanderdoes in the third inning. Vanderdoes finished 3-for-4 with a homer, a double and two RBIs while senior Michael Reale was 2-for-3 with two RBIs to pace Placer (5-4 PVL). Zach Hersch added a double and a triple and Ryan Mason as 2-for-4. Kevin Giles was far from perfect on the mound, but he battled for four innings to get the win for the Hillmen. Kevin Harcus pitched well in 2 1/3 innings of relief and Mason got the final two outs. Devon Loomis was 3-for-3 to lead Colfax, which tallied nine hits. David Campbell was 2-for-2 with a double and was tremendous on defense in right field. Placer’s junior varsity blanked Colfax 4-0 as Colton Rank tossed a four-hitter with seven strikeouts. Luke Knoble supported the cause with excellent defense in left field and a 2-for-3 day at the plate. Chip Mitchell knocked in two runs and Tyler Gumms was 1-for-3 with an RBI.
