Hillmen fire 194 at Auburn Valley

The Placer High golf team continued its torrid pace to start the season, shooting a 194 at Auburn Valley Country Club Tuesday to easily hurdle Colfax.
Daniel Gregg fired a 1-over par 37 to lead four Hillmen in the 30s as they won by 25 strokes over the Falcons in a Pioneer Valley League battle.
Matthew Potter, Clark Pietromonaco and Cody Riecks all shot 39 for Placer. Austin Childress added a 40.
Patrick Cabrera fired a 40 to pace Colfax. Jay Lynch shot a 42. Chris Bauer and Zach Wibberly both carded 45s and Jordan Balser added a 47.
Bear River 220, Foothill (forfeit) at Cherry Island — The Bruins won their PVL opener as Jake DePass led the way with a 2-over-par 39.
Kory Langseth shot a 40 and Chris Lopez added a 42 for Bear River. Aubrey Harwell tossed in a 45 and Matt McDaniel finished with a 54.
Granite Bay 193, Del Oro 199 at Turkey Creek —Del Oro doesn’t lose often but had to watch as an early lead turned into a 193-199 loss to Granite Bay at Turkey Creek.
The Eagles (0-1 Sierra Foothill League, 7-2) were led by a pair of 36s from Justin Raskin and Bobby Mullin, who is in his first year on varsity after playing on the JV team last season. Senior Austin Smotherman turned in a 39, while Ryan Takayama carded a 43, Canyon Rowe had a 45 and Don Bollard finished at 49.
Granite Bay was led by Alex Gibbs’ 36 and a 37 from Check Pedone.
Del Oro will host Roseville on Thursday at Turkey Creek.
Forest Lake 6, Woodland Christian 0
at Lake of the Pines — The Falcons cruised to 2-0 in the Central Valley California League as Morgan Koch and Marissa Peterson scored two goals apiece.
Lia Hagerty and Makena Wong added one goal each for Forest Lake Koch dished out two assists. Emily English, Sarah Ponce and Wong had one each.
Seleste Miranda recorded the shutout for the Falcons, who will host Delta on Thursday.
The Placer High tennis team stretched its Pioneer Valley League win streak to 60 matches with a shutout of Colfax Tuesday on the road.
Steven Fraguglia and Blair Meyer rolled to straight-set wins in boys singles action. Tina Hummell and Claire McInerny took their girls singles matches in two sets.
Brendan Axelbaum and Andrew Carducci won at No. 1 boys doubles. At No. 2, Derek Ikeda and Andrew Dahlin easily won their match.
Lindsey Holden and Kirstin Schauble were winners at No. 1 girls doubles, along with Roni Bohaban and Tawny Thompson.
In mixed doubles, Kyle Fontes and Natalie Garcia won in straight sets.
Del Oro 5, Granite Bay 4
at Loomis — The Golden Eagles notched a big win over rival and perennial power Granite Bay at home.
Brett Bacharach won in shutout sets at No. 1 singles. Paul Vila was the only other singles winner for the Eagles.
Daniel Silva and Mitch Pingree led a doubles sweep for Del Oro with a win at No. 1. Taylor Butterfield and Kyle Borges won 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2. Alex Sznaider and Gabriel Excurra Taiganides won their No. 3 match 6-2, 6-3.
