Hillmen pounce on Mavericks

The Placer High bats sprung to life in the fourth inning to carry the Hillmen past Mesa Verde 14-3 Friday afternoon in Citrus Heights. Spencer Zaputil, Joel Thys and Maxx Harris pounded out two hits apiece and Jeff Mason pitched six solid innings as the Hillmen rallied from a 3-0 deficit for their first Pioneer Valley League victory. Placer (1-1 PVL, 5-4 overall) scored six runs in the fourth, five in the fifth and three in the seventh to put the game away. Rocklin 13, Del Oro 3 at Loomis - The Golden Eagles dropped to 2-2 in the Sierra Foothill League as they struggled defensively against the Thunder (4-0 SFL). "We played soccer," Del Oro coach Bret Lacheman said of his team's eight-error performance. The Eagles managed just three hits against Rocklin's Jeremy Cole. Foresthill 18, Victory Christian 0 at Lake of the Pines - The Wildfires' Tom Fitzinger and Zack Fawcett combined on a 1-hitter in the Central Valley Christian League opener for both teams. Richard Walker belted the first home run at home for Foresthill while Eric Cannon and Fawcett were both 3-for-4 to pace the offense. Fitzinger was 2-for-4, as was Tyler Sykes. Foresthill improved to 2-4 overall. Forest Lake 4, Woodland Christian 1 at Lake of the Pines - Junior Corbin Phillips struck out 13 and scored a pair of runs to lead the Falcons to their first Central Valley Christian League victory. Phillips doubled and scored on a single by junior Chase Fiore in the first inning. Fiore scored on a passed ball to give Forest Lake (2-0 overall) the lead for good at 2-1. Phillips scored again in the third and George Park knocked in Fiore with a sixth-inning single for the final run of the contest.
