Hillmen rally in extras

Cameron Southward drove in the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth and pitched two innings of relief to earn the win in Placer High’s 5-4 Pioneer Valley League victory over host Whitney Wednesday. Josh Klem pitched six strong innings, allowing all four runs in a rough first before finishing with six strikeouts and no walks. Matt Ryan went 1-for-3 for the Hillmen and Paul Bandanza had two hits. Placer (7-3-1, 2-1-1 PVL) travels to El Dorado Friday. Rocklin 6, Del Oro 0 at Rocklin — The Thunder scored four first-inning runs when the Golden Eagles misplayed two bunts and overthrew a cutoff man. Brian Bynum pitched a complete game for Del Oro, allowing four earned runs on eight hits. He struck out four and walked two. The Eagles mustered only four hits against Rocklin’s Matt Fielding. Bynum, Josh Akin, Cole Perez and Ryan Xepoleus had one each. Del Oro (6-5-1, 3-4 Sierra Foothill League) visits the Thunder again this afternoon before wrapping up the season series in Loomis on Friday. El Dorado 4, Bear River 3 at Placerville – The Cougars pounded out 11 hits and won in walk-off fashion to hand the Bruins their first PVL loss. Bear River (9-8, 3-1 PVL) travels to Lincoln Friday.
