Hillmen roll past PV in opener

The Placer High boys basketball team opened the season with an impressive win in the first round of the Harlan Carter Tournament in Redding.
Senior Cody Riggs led four scorers in double figures with 23 points as Placer beat Pleasant Valley of Chico 62-46.
Senior Alec Knox added 12 points and 10 rebounds, junior Peter Kean had 11 points and four steals and junior Isaiah Pineiro added 10 points and 11 rebounds.
The Hillmen will take on Foothill of Palo Cedro in the tournament semifinals today.
Whitney 63, Placer 61
at Rocklin — The Placer girls needed one more basket Thursday night in the opening game of the Whitney Wildcat Invitational in Rocklin.
The Lady Hllmen lost to the hosts 63-61 in their first game of the season. Placer led 46-39 going into the fourth quarter, but the Wildcats pulled ahead late and advanced to today’s semifinals. The Lady Hillmen will face Paradise in a consolation bracket game at 3:30 p.m.
Becky Feis paced Placer with 18 points and 11 rebounds. Kellyn McDonald came off the bench to score 12 and Lauren Collins scored 10. Nicole Parrish chipped in with nine.
Del Oro 67, Lodi 31 at Sonora — The Golden Eagles had no trouble in the first round of the Sonora Kiwanis Tournament, which they’ve won five years in a row.
Brianna Ruiz scored 19 points and passed out six assists to lead Del Oro. Stephanie Geyer added 15 points and nine rebounds for the Eagles, who will face Bret Harte tonight at 6:30 p.m.
Taylor Jabusch and Mia Miglinte scored seven points apiece. Natalie Sohn grabbed eight rebounds and Cami Brening dished out seven assists.
Colfax 43, Roseville 33 at Roseville — On Tuesday, the Falcons defeated the Tigers to open the season.
Ashley Scott led Colfax with 10 points and seven rebounds while Haley Liss scored nine. Reagan Lillie added eight points and Haley Biles tossed in six for the Falcons, who will host Spanish Springs today at 5:30 p.m.
