Hillmen rout Mesa Verde in home finale

Travis Tidd scored twice and the Placer High boys soccer team trounced visiting Mesa Verde 8-0 in a home finale Monday night. Darren Centi, Jose Arellano, Jack Tucker, Eddie Santamaria, sweeper Nick Mitchell and goalkeeper Nigel Pell added goals for the Hillmen, whose goalkeepers touched the ball twice all game. “It was a good way to send out five graduating seniors out,” head coach Mark Miller said. Placer closes out the season at Lincoln Wednesday night. Colfax 5, Bear River 1 at Colfax — Austin Oberg scored a goal in each half and the Falcons routed the Bruins to improve to 9-9-1 overall and 4-4 in the PVL. Steven Smith scored the first goal fro Colfax. Elliott Forsman and David Lanthier added second-half scores. The Falcons host Whitney Wednesday afternoon. Victory Christian 3, Forest Lake Christian 2 at Lake of the Pines — In their hardest-fought game of the season, the host Falcons fell on a goal with five minutes left. “I’m very proud of my team,” head coach Thad Kopec said. “This was the first game where we really played hard and aggressive for an entire 80 minutes. It was disheartening to lose, but we saw some sign of improvement today in our effort.” Austin Violette scored off a cross from Randy Van Winkle in the first half. Van Winkle scored on a penalty kick in the second half. FLC (5-8-5 overall, 3-3-2 Central Valley Christian League) is still in playoff contention, but the Falcons will need some help. If Victory Christian beats Vacaville Christian and Forest Lake beats Vacaville Christian in their season finale Monday, FLC would take over second place.
