Another chapter in Placer High’s storied football history will unfold tonight at Le Febvre Stadium. The Hillmen host Woodland to open the Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs as they hope to embark on another long postseason run. Placer won three playoff games on its home turf last season on its way to a second straight section title game. A large crowd is expected for the playoff opener, which begins at 7 p.m. Placer officials said fans should arrive by 6:30 to secure a seat for the game. Gates to the stadium will open at 5:45. Fans will want to bundle up. Chilly weather is expected with clear skies and temperatures in the 40s. The Hillmen whipped Woodland 58-20 in a non-league game in September, though Placer coach Joey Montoya said the Wolves have improved dramatically since then. Placer finished the regular season 8-2 overall and placed second in the Pioneer Valley League. The Hillmen are seeded No. 4 while Woodland is No. 13. The playoff success of the past two seasons came against Division IV competition. The Hillmen were placed in the Division III field when the brackets were released by section officials last Saturday. The brackets are determined by dividing up the playoff qualifiers by enrollment. The Hillmen can earn one more home game with a win tonight. Placer would face the winner of tonight’s Oakdale-Christian Brothers game next Friday. ----------------------- Sac-Joaquin Section Division III playoff opener Woodland at Placer, 7 p.m. at Le Febvre Stadium Tickets: $9 for adults; $5 for senior citizens, students with school ID and elementary school students Souvenir programs will be on sale at the game and the Placer Football Boosters will be selling souvenir T-shirts.
