Hillmen tame Grizzlies
The Placer High boys basketball team overcame foul trouble in the first half and lit up the Earl Crabbe Gym scoreboard again with an 84-55 victory over Golden Sierra Thursday night.
In their final game before Pioneer Valley League play begins, the Hillmen built a 40-27 lead by halftime and extended the gap in the second half.
Senior Koal Swisley was outstanding, scoring 20 points to go with 11 rebounds and four steals. Josh Turney added 19 points and eight assists while Cody Riggs contributed 16 points, six rebounds and four steals.
Michael Wiebelhaus, David Daniel and Isaiah Pineiro played well off the bench for the Hillmen, who improved to 7-9 on the year.
Del Oro 68, Rocklin 58 at Rocklin — Alan Kidwell picked the perfect night to have the best game of his varsity career. The junior forward scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds to lead the Golden Eagles in their Sierra Foothill League opener.
“He just did a really good job of finding gaps and he attacked the glass,” Del Oro coach Geoff Broyles said. “It was by far his best game of the season and we needed it.”
Del Oro (14-3) steadily pulled away from the Thunder, using a 22-14 advantage in the second quarter to take control.
Senior Kyle Russell scored 13 points and junior Jordan Broyles added 10 for the Eagles.
