Hillmen top Mira Loma, will face Bear River next
The Placer High boys basketball team scored 31 points in the first quarter and never looked back en route to beating Mira Loma 82-70 Monday night in the teams’ Kendall Arnett Tournament opener.
Senior center James Taber and junior point guard Darren Centi netted 23 points apiece, Helping the Hillmen (9-5) earn a second-round semifinal matchup with Pioneer Valley League rival Bear River. Taber also had a team-high 11 rebounds, while Centi had four steals on the defensive end.
Senior forward Josh Klem finished with 17 points and eight rebounds for Placer. Senior guard Anthony Amara chipped in four steals and four assists.
Bear River 70, San Juan 46 — Senior center Tommy Goodman led the Bruins with 12 points as Bear River moved reached the tournament semifinals for the second straight year.
Guards Johnny Jewett and Jonny Cassar netted 11 points apiece for Bear River. Senior forward Jordan Beskeen pulled down a team-high 14 rebounds.
Del Campo 71, Nevada Union 58 — Junior Alex Powell scored 23 points to lead the Cougars past the reigning tournament champion. Dylan Ottaway, a 6-foot-3 senior, added 12 points for Del Campo.
Nevada Union was led by senior Peter MacDonald, who shared the game high with Powell with 23 points. Junior Collin Lee finished with 15.
