The Golden Hillmen Marching Band is creating quite the musical buzz with its halftime performances, including the stellar Homecoming routine to the music of The Beatles two weeks ago. Aside from providing halftime entertainment during Hillmen football games, the band also competes in regional marching parades, has performed at the Gold Country Fair, recently held a concert performance at Placer High and will be marching at this year’s Veterans Day Parade in Downtown Auburn. Keeping with tradition, the band will be traveling with the Hillmen football team as they make their way through the playoffs at another highly anticipated run toward a championship. After the football season the music doesn’t stop playing, as the band performs at Hillmen basketball games during the fall. Music instructor David Lawrenson speaks highly of his marching band. “We are 93 strong, which is amazing considering when I arrived here in 2006, there were only 39 members,” Lawrenson said. “We just keep growing every year and that really helps the sound and look of the band. I’m blessed to work with great students and adults who share the same vision. ~Ben Furtado, Journal photo editor
