Easter sunrise services – at the historical Dutch Flat diggings and at Meadow Vista Park – will be some of the highlights of Holy Week worship opportunities planned by area churches.

The Sierra First Baptist Church of Alta and the Pioneer Union Church of Gold Run, a non-denominational congregation, will hold a sunrise service beginning a 6:30 a.m. March 31 at the diggings, which are accessible by foot from Main Street in Dutch Flat. At 10 a.m., the two churches will hold Easter services in their respective sanctuaries.

Placer Hills United Methodist Church will also host a sunrise service beginning at 6:30 a.m. at Meadow Vista Park, followed by a breakfast for all at the Methodist Church on Placer Hills Road.

Regular Sunday worship services will be held Easter Sunday at 9:30 a.m. at the Colfax United Methodist Church on Church Street in Colfax, and at 11 a.m. at the Placer Hills United Methodist Church in Meadow Vista. A light supper at 5 p.m. will precede 6 p.m. worship at the Dutch Flat United Methodist Church on Stockton Street.

On Sunday, Colfax Baptist Church plans a traditional service at 9:30 a.m. and a contemporary service at 11 a.m., with a special program for children, at the Sierra Vista Center on School Street in Colfax. At 10:30 a.m., between the two services, there will be a social time with snacks and hot beverages. All first-time guests will receive a gift.

Church youth will present an Easter pageant titled “Greatest Love Story Ever Told” at 10 a.m. at the Colfax Assembly of God on Culver Street.

St. Dominic Catholic Church will hold a Mass of the Last Supper at 8:15 p.m. today. On Friday there will be a Stations of the Cross ceremony at 3 p.m. and a Liturgy of Good Friday at 8:15 p.m. Easter Vigil Mass is at 8:15 p.m. Saturday. Masses on Easter Sunday begin at 8 and 10 a.m.

The Colfax Ministerial Association will host its third annual Good Friday Service at 6:30 p.m. on March 29. This reflective time of worship will be interspersed with first-person messages of the historical day given by the pastors from the Methodist, Assembly of God and Baptist churches. A special offering will be taken for the Ministerial Association that helps fund activities such as the Good Friday Service and others during the year.
