-A +A
Cadet Russell Bettencourt, son of Lawrence and Laurie Bettencourt of Newcastle, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at the U.S. Military Academy. To earn this distinction, a cadet must maintain a 3.0 average during the semester, including military science and physical education. Bettencourt earned a 3.95 GPA during the fall semester. Bettencourt also received the Superintendent’s Award for Excellence, a prestigious award given to cadets who prove themselves to be outstanding simultaneously in all three programs (academic, military, and physical). It is based on the Cadet Award Score which is a combination of the three program scores applying equal weight to each. The insignia for the Superintendent’s Award for Excellence is a gold star encircled by a gold wreath; it is presented to the top 5 percent of cadets in each class. Bettencourt is a 2007 Del Oro High School graduate, and will be commissioned a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army upon graduation at West Point in 2012.
