A happy letter … I wanted to thank the Auburn Host Lions for their efforts this year with community involvement. The annual Dan Higgins Award was given to the Boys & Girls Club in the form of basketball backboards, mounts, etc. In addition, there was physical help in laying the floor for the gym. In November, the club sponsored 12 B&G members and staff for an extended weekend at the Ross Relles Lion’s Camp in Nevada County. And the donation of a refrigerator to the Auburn Interfaith Food Closet, with the Salvation Army and Feed the Hungry again high on the list, as well as the 2,500 pounds of potatoes and cash donated to the Christmas Basket Program this December. Being the first service organization to “sponsor a pueblo” with the Flying Doctors in Baja as well as donations of eyeglasses was the highlight of the year. All in all, over 40 organizations in the Auburn community have received donations from the Auburn Host Lions as well as the 49 Fire victims served via the Lion’s 4C5 district that was directed through Host Lions’ involvement with other local Lion’s clubs. Auburn is lucky to have the support of all the volunteers and service organizations that make our community a better place. Thanks to all. Phil (Pip) Stoutenburg, Ophir
