House fire overnight in Newcastle area

A house fire in the vicinity of Highway 193 in the Newcastle area closed the major Newcastle-Lincoln road connection for several hours overnight Thursday as firefighters battled the blaze. Cal Fire reported Friday that the initial call came in at 10:41 p.m. Thursday as downed power lines. But firefighters responding to the scene instead found themselves containing a residential structure fire. The fire was declared extinguished at 3 a.m. and Highway 193, which had been closed for several hours, was soon after reopened to traffic. The house was reportedly heavily damaged.
